About The Emergency Assistance Program

In response to the current administration's actions, the City of Newark, under the leadership of Mayor Ras J. Baraka is launching a temporary program aimed at alleviating the cost-burdens of Newark residents and families who are recipients of the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP). Through this initiative, the City aims to provide financial assistance for individuals and families who, without the assistance of SNAP, may have difficulty affording necessities such as:
- Household utilities (water, gas, internet, etc.)
- Rent/mortgage
- Rental arrears
- Transportation
- Childcare
- Co-pays for health provider visits and prescriptions
PLEASE NOTE: Only residents of the City of Newark are eligible for this program.
After an application has been completed and submitted, applicants will receive a notification of confirmation via email. Applicants should expect to receive an email of the status of their application within 72 hours.
